The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces documented 159 military clashes along the front line on April 22, marking the intensity of ongoing hostilities across multiple sectors.
According to the morning briefing, Russian forces conducted 73 aerial strikes and deployed 234 guided aerial bombs throughout the day. Enemy drone attacks reached alarming numbers, with 9,096 kamikaze drones deployed, while ground forces carried out 3,231 artillery barrages against civilian settlements and military positions, including 52 strikes from multiple launch rocket systems.
In response, Ukrainian air forces, missile units, and artillery targeted six enemy concentration areas, three command posts, and eliminated one hostile artillery piece during the 24-hour period.
Hottest Combat Zones
Nearly half of all engagements occurred across three operational directions:
- Kostiantynivsk Direction (Donetsk): 20 enemy attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiyivka, Aleksandro-Shultino, Ivanopillya, Illinivka, and toward Novodmytrivka
- Pokrovsk Direction (Donetsk): 36 assault operations repelled in areas including Sofiyivka, Novopavlivka, Toretsk, Rodynske, Philiya, Shevchenko, Myrnohrad, Grishyne, Muravka, Kotlyne, Udachne, and toward Kucherov Yar
- Hulaipolsk Direction (Zaporizhzhia): 16 attacks in the vicinity of Dobrovillya, Hirke, Zaliznychne, Zelene, Staroukriyka, and Tsvitkove
Fighting also persisted across eight additional sectors: South Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Aleksandrivsk, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions.
Broader Context
On April 15, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyy reported that Russian forces intensified offensive operations across virtually the entire 1,200-kilometer front line as weather conditions improved. He identified the Aleksandrivsk, Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivsk, and Lyman directions as the most critical sectors throughout March.
On April 17, Volodymyr Polevyy, communications chief of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps, disclosed that Russian troops are concentrating resources near Myrnohrad's southern outskirts in Donetsk, strategically utilizing residential buildings as natural defensive positions.
