Ukrainian Railways Reroutes Trains to Korosten Amid Russian Strikes

State railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia announced on April 23 that it has temporarily altered routes for suburban trains traveling from Kyiv to Korosten and back due to ongoing military operations in the region.

Service Disruption Details:

The company stated that metropolitan suburban services will now terminate at or depart from Drevolynka station, which represents the final stop before Korosten on the Kyiv-bound electric train line. "We ask passengers to take note of these changes when planning their trips and to carefully follow railway staff instructions in case of security-related stops," the carrier stated in its announcement.

Incident Background:

The decision follows a Russian drone attack that struck the Korosten station in Zhytomyr region. According to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, the unmanned aerial vehicle targeted a diesel locomotive at the station. Railway workers were sheltering at the time of impact, though a civilian woman was killed in the vicinity of the attack site.

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration head Vitaliy Bunechko earlier confirmed that the fatality resulted from Russian strikes against civilian transport infrastructure in the region, noting that the assault was conducted using combat drones.

Broader Military Context:

The Air Force of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that Russian forces conducted a nighttime assault on the country using 155 unmanned aerial vehicles, with air defense systems neutralizing 139 of them. Military officials documented direct hits from 11 strike drones across nine separate locations, with debris falling on four additional areas.
