Over 160 Combat Clashes Recorded Across Front Lines Since Start of Day, Ukrainian Military Reports
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that more than 161 military engagements have taken place since the beginning of April 26. Russian forces have intensified their assault operations across nearly the entire 1,200-kilometer front line, employing heavy aerial bombardment and widespread drone strikes against Ukrainian positions and civilian settlements.
Scale of Russian Military Operations
According to the General Staff's evening briefing at 22:00, the enemy conducted 54 airstrikes and deployed 168 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, Russian forces launched 3,401 kamikaze drone attacks and carried out 1,902 artillery strikes against populated areas and Ukrainian military positions.
Heaviest Fighting Concentrated in Three Sectors
Nearly half of all combat engagements have been concentrated in three key directions:
Konstantynivsk Sector (Donetsk Region)
Ukrainian forces repelled 15 enemy assault attempts in the direction of Konstantynivka, Pleshchiyivka, Illinivka, Ivano-Pille, Aleksandro-Shultyno, Sofiyivka, Kucherovyy Yar, and Rusynyy Yar. Three of these engagements remain ongoing.
Pokrovsk Sector (Donetsk Region)
The occupying force executed 39 separate attacks in the Pokrovsk direction, with assault attempts directed toward Nikanorívka, Rodynske, Mirnohrad, Novoalexandrivka, Gryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novopidhorodne, Muravka, Molodets'ke, and Filiya. Four enemy attacks were still underway at the time of the report.
Hulyaypil Sector (Zaporizhzhia Region)
Russian forces launched 24 attacks toward the towns of Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Varvarívka, Charivne, Prylucky, Staroukrayinka, Hirke, Vozdvyzhivka, and Svyatopetrivka, with three assaults continuing at the time of reporting.
Additional Frontline Activity
Intense combat operations also continued across the North Slobozhansky and Kursk, South Slobozhansky, Kupyansk, Lyman, Aleksandriv, Orichiv, and Dnipro-right bank sectors.
Context: Strategic Situation Assessment
On April 15, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky reported that the Russian army has significantly intensified offensive operations across the entire front line following favorable weather changes. He identified the Aleksandriv, Pokrovsk, Konstantynivsk, and Lyman sectors as the most active combat zones during March.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the frontline situation on April 23 as "exceptional," noting that Ukrainian defensive positions have stabilized compared to previous months and years. However, he warned that Russia continues preparations for large-scale aerial attacks against Ukrainian territory.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) previously assessed that battlefield realities as of late March 2026 indicate that "significant Russian territorial gains, let alone complete victory, are not inevitable."
