Hopes for Persona 1 and 2 remakes crushed as Atlus mysteriously alters the JRPGs' new merch listings, despite seeming determined to tease a re-release

Look, I want remakes of the first two Persona games myself – especially as we've gotten one for just about every entry (or so it feels), from Persona 3 Reload to the upcoming Persona 4 Revival.
I did feel a spark of hope when Atlus unveiled new tank tops, baseball hats, mugs, and sweatshirts, proudly exclaiming, "Persona and Persona 2: Innocent Sin / Persona 2: Eternal Punishment are coming to Amazon" on social media.

Heck, the merch was even sporting names unfamiliar to us: Origins and Duality. Those aren't titles that the original JRPGs have ever gone by, so it's not surprising that most of us took the news of possible remakes and ran wild with it – but now, I'm not so sure.
That's because, as an eagle-eyed fan points out in a new online post, "Atlus has removed 'Origins' and 'Duality' from the product names of their Persona 1 and Persona 2 merch after fans started to notice."
Started to notice, you know, the never-before-seen names. I've checked the official listings on Amazon myself, and sure enough, every piece of merch now just carries the old, known titles with it rather than Origins or Duality.
It doesn't exactly help the hopium we've all been on, and I'm not alone in feeling this way. "They hate us, bro," as one comment amusingly reads. Another jokes, "Atlus never changes fr." It's not all doom and gloom, though.
While I'm not entirely convinced that Persona 1 and 2 remakes are coming soon anymore, this doesn't necessarily mean they're not on the table at all. It's more likely that Atlus changed the names because we were all freaking out, and the studio isn't ready to officially reveal any potential Persona 1 and 2 projects just yet I mean, the developers did add fuel to the fire with a celebratory thread for Persona 2: Innocent Sin's birthday days ago.

The top comment literally reads, "Now release the remake version!" There's no way Atlus didn't know what it was doing, right?
It's all the more tough to say, seeing as long-time Persona producer and P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada also previously said Persona 1 and 2 remakes aren't on Atlus' "schedule" right now, but he "would like to do it someday." When that day might be, nobody knows. Fingers crossed, I guess.
I suppose only time will truly tell what they're cooking. For now, we have Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 to look forward to, at least, although the latter hasn't been officially revealed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go replay Metaphor: ReFantazio to clear my mind of this Persona business a bit.
