US launches Project Freedom in Strait of Hormuz with 15,000 troops and over 100 aircraft
In a post on X, CENTCOM said the initiative will begin on Monday under the direction of President Donald Trump, Ukrinform reports.
"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin supporting Project Freedom, May 4, to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz," the military said.
The operation aims to ensure the safe passage of merchant vessels through the essential international trade corridor, used to transport a significant share of global oil, fuel, and fertilizers.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. military support to Project Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.
