Wave of Opposition Emerges as Warner Bros. Discovery Shareholders Prepare to Vote on Paramount Deal
As investors at Warner Bros. Discovery gear up to decide on a potential merger with Paramount, prominent figures and organizations have launched a coordinated campaign urging shareholders to reject the transaction.
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has taken a vocal stance against the merger, releasing a 13-minute video titled Warner Bros-Paramount Merger, the Corporate Propaganda Monopoly: Ellison Media Cartel DEEP DIVE. Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America convened media executives and antitrust specialists for a virtual press conference Wednesday, titled Rejecting the Paramount Skydance Bid: Why WBD Shareholders Must Vote 'No'.
The opposition extends to grassroots activism as well. Jane Fonda's Committee for the First Amendment and allied organizations are mobilizing supporters for a demonstration scheduled outside WBD's Manhattan offices.
The rally will feature remarks from notable speakers including:
- Jumaane Williams, Public Advocate of New York City
- Brad Lander, former New York City Comptroller
- David Borenstein, Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker
The coordinated push represents significant organized resistance to the deal ahead of the shareholder vote.
