Following the Renegade’s discontinuation last year, the Avenger is now the smallest Jeep money can buy. Although not offered in the United States, it has proven popular globally, racking up 270,000 sales since its launch three years ago. For 2027, the European-designed SUV receives a mid-cycle refresh with a variety of tweaks inside and out.

Aside from redesigned bumpers, the Avenger facelift can now be ordered in two new colors: Forest and Bamboo, both available with an optional contrasting black roof. Elsewhere, Jeep has also freshened up the 17- and 18-inch wheels, which feature a new center cap with a stylized Willys profile.

While these changes are typical of a mid-cycle facelift, we’re pleasantly surprised to hear Jeep has improved the interior as well. The door panels now use softer materials, while the lower part of the dashboard receives a padded insert. In the Altitude and Summit trim levels, the new Avenger gets upgraded cloth/vinyl upholstery. Step up to the 4xe, and the seats are wrapped in a new type of washable, durable green upholstery.

With Jeep celebrating 85 years since launching its first mass-produced vehicle, the Avenger gains a limited-run special edition to mark the milestone. It stands out with a tartan hood decal, along with gold accents for the bumpers and wheels. The anniversary model also has special logos inside and out, gold stitching, and an illuminated grille. The backlit seven-slot front grille is also available on some higher-end trims.

2027 Jeep Avenger: Better Tech, New Engine

For 2027, the Avenger gains new features such as matrix LED headlights and a front-facing camera that enables a 360-degree view. However, we reckon the biggest change is under the hood, where Jeep is fitting Stellantis’ new turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engine. The three-cylinder switches to a more durable timing chain, replacing the wet belt that ran immersed in oil and caused numerous reliability issues.

Already powering the latest Peugeot 208, the small gas engine produces 100 horsepower and 151 pound-feet (205 Newton-meters) of torque. Jeep’s parent company has replaced the engine block, pistons, and piston rings to achieve “overall robustness and controlled oil consumption,” addressing the problems of the previous engine. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The updated Avenger continues to offer a mild-hybrid powertrain paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 108 hp to the front wheels. Step up to the plug-in hybrid, and there’s a rear-mounted electric motor enabling all-wheel drive and a combined 143 hp.

For those willing to give up the combustion engine entirely, Jeep calls the fully electric version the “pinnacle of Avenger technology.” The EV packs 154 hp and a 54-kWh battery delivering 249 miles (400 kilometers) of WLTP range while supporting DC fast charging at up to 100 kW.

Jeep is already taking orders for the Polish-built Avenger and will begin deliveries later this year.

Motor1's Take: The Avenger has been surprisingly good for business, so it makes sense that Jeep isn’t radically changing a winning formula. Aside from minor styling tweaks, the mid-cycle refresh brings meaningful upgrades such as improved headlights and what should be a more reliable base engine.
