The XPENG GX definitely excited our own Larry Evans at Auto China 2026, and analysts obsessively tracking vehicle sales in China think it’s going to be a big hit.

Deutsche Bank analysts expect that orders for the XPENG GX will give XPENG enough of a boost that it will have around 50,000 sales in May. That’s a big boost for a company that was just above 31,000 in April!

According to the Deutsche Bank team, part of the early success of the GX has been aggressive pricing. For a limited time, you can order a GX for 269,800 yuan ($39,707), a ridiculous price for a vehicle of its size and capability. (The GX has a 100 kWh battery, a steer-by-wire chassis, hardware for L4 autonomous driving capability, supposedly, and tons of compute power.)

50,000 sales would mean a big jump over April sales, as already mentioned, but it would also mean a moderate jump over May 2025 sales (and those were up 230% over May 2024 sales).

Overall, on average, the reporting is that dealers expect to move around 5,000 units of the GX per month on average. Naturally, though, a surge at the beginning of its career is likely. XPENG received nearly 25,000 orders — not reservations, but orders that can’t be cancelled — within the first 12 hours it went on sale. That’s a good way to get started.

People ordering a GX now have wait times of about half a year. So, yeah, orders may die down, but it will take a while for that to show in delivery numbers since XPENG will be delivering all the vehicles it can make.

Also, despite the low base price, XPENG has announced that ~80% of orders are for the top-trim Ultra flagship editions of the GX.

Following the GX, XPENG has the ultra-large G9L SUV coming out in the fall to boost sales again, as well as the smaller Mona L05 and Mona L03 sometime in the second half of the year and the Mona M05 in 2027. XPENG is currently selling the P7+, X9, G6, and Mona M03, in addition to the brand new GX.
