The shooting happened outside One Four One on West Street, police said

A woman has died following a shooting outside a bar in Sheffield city centre.

The 30-year-old was found with serious injuries outside One Four One on West Street at about 02:45 BST on Monday.

She was treated at the scene by police officers and paramedics before being taken to hospital, where she later died.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. A 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were held near Stockport, Greater Manchester, in the early hours, and a 30-year-old man was arrested in Sheffield.

They remained in custody for questioning on Monday.

While the woman is yet to be formally identified, her family have been informed, according to South Yorkshire Police.

Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane said it was a "devastating incident"

Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane said: "This is a devastating incident which has resulted in the death of a young woman while on a night out during the bank holiday weekend in Sheffield."

He added police would continue to have a "significant presence at the scene in the area today and in the coming days", and urged anyone with information to come forward.

"Now is not the time to stay silent," he said.

"Bank holidays are one of the busiest times of the year, and we know that there were people in the area around West Street and Eldon Street who saw what happened or know who is responsible."

West Street is closed between Mappin Street and Westfield Terrace, and Eldon Street, Westhill Lane and part of Orange Street have also been closed.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

Oli Constable reporting from the scene

West Street would usually be really busy on a sunny bank holiday Monday like today, but it's been closed since the early hours following that fatal shooting.

We have seen forensic officers in their white suits going into One Four One and taking photos near the front door, with the police cordon stretching as far as I can see from our position at the top of the street.

It is a sea of blue and white tape, and small yellow evidence markers have been dotted along the busy road.

'Senseless violence'

South Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Kilvinder Vigurs said "everything possible is being done to protect our communities".

She added: "It is important that members of the community come forward with information to prevent innocent members of the public becoming victims of senseless violence of this nature.

"People should be reassured that South Yorkshire Police is working at pace to establish the full circumstances and to ensure those responsible are brought to justice."
