The stakes are getting higher and higher in Maul – Shadow Lord, as a new Inquisitor has arrived to hunt the titular ex-Sith Lord. But who is that mysterious masked Inquisitor, and have we seen him in Star Wars before?

The newcomer, an Inquisitor named the Eleventh Brother, wears a terrifying, bird-like mask and, naturally, wields a blood-red lightsaber. He's also a major threat, helping Marrok to battle Maul, and proving to be a match for the Zabrak. Below, we've broken down all you need to know about the Eleventh Brother, and where he has appeared in Star Wars before. That means you can get up to speed at a glance.

Who is the masked Inquisitor in Maul – Shadow Lord?

In episode 6, Marrok called for aid, and it seems this Inquisitor is sent as the help he requested. The new Inquisitor on Janix is none other than the Eleventh Brother, an Inquisitor who has showed up in the Star Wars canon a few times before.

He first appears in Tales of the Jedi, in an episode that sees Ahsoka Tano in hiding after Order 66, posing as a farmer in a small village. When the Inquisitors receive a tipoff that a Jedi was in the village, the Eleventh Brother arrives – which results in a showdown with Snips.

Ahsoka is able to defeat the Eleventh Brother and (spoiler alert) decapitates him, meaning this episode of Tales of the Jedi is set after Maul – Shadow Lord on the Star Wars timeline, and also revealing that the Eleventh Brother will survive the events of Shadow Lord. (A very similar storyline plays out in the novel Ahsoka, penned by E.K. Johnston, though involving an Inquisitor named the Sixth Brother. "It's based on the same outline I gave publishing for the novel. It was always the same story," Filoni told Nerdist of the Tales of the Jedi episode.)

The Eleventh Brother also appears briefly in Tales of the Empire in a scene featuring the Inquisitors kneeling before Darth Vader – perhaps supporting the theory that the shadowy figure Marrok called at the end of episode 6 is indeed Vader. We'll just have to wait and see...
