Chelsea finished the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with the worst red card record across all clubs.

Their total of eight dismissals in league fixtures - rising to 11 across all competitions - is a club record, and twice as many as Tottenham (for) with the second-worst record.

It left Chelsea one card short of equalling the overall record for most red cards in a single Premier League season.

Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers hold the joint record for that, with nine each.

The Black Cats became the first team to pick up nine red cards in a season during the 2009-10 campaign, before QPR matched their 'feat' two years later.

Chelsea players Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Moises Caicedo, Wesley Fofana (twice), Marc Cucurella, and Pedro Neto were all given their marching orders by referees this campaign.

Former head coach Enzo Maresca was also sent off late on during Chelsea's win over Liverpool in October.

However, Tottenham did beat Chelsea when it came to yellow cards this season, picking up 99 compared to the Blues' 90.

Chelsea's worst Premier League seasons for red cards so far have been:

  • 2025-26 - eight red cards

  • 2007-08 - six red cards

  • 2009-10, 2015-16, 2005-06 - five red cards
