‘What a mess’: Wang Fuk Court residents flag glitches before online owners’ meeting

Estate’s administrator Hop On has called for affected owners to re-register, while saying it has stepped up security arrangements

Multiple residents of Hong Kong’s fire-ravaged Wang Fuk Court have reported problems with registering for an online meeting hosted by the estate’s administrator, with the firm saying it has stepped up arrangements to enhance cybersecurity.

A resident received an SMS from Hop On Management Company, the estate’s administrator, on Sunday saying he had not completed registration for the May 20 update session for owners, two days after the firm had confirmed a “successful registration”.

“You have not completed the registration procedures for the Wang Fuk Court’s owners update session. Therefore, we cannot confirm the attendance arrangement,” read the text message shown to the South China Morning Post.

Hop On said the resident should re-register via its website before 11.59pm on Sunday and could call with any inquiries during its office hours on weekdays.

The reminder came despite the resident receiving a confirmation text by Hop On on Friday noting that the household would receive the virtual meeting password by Sunday, and could log in to the meeting link on May 20 from 10am.

Two other residents also voiced similar frustrations over the technical glitches.

“I registered immediately when I got the [invitation] link, but today I was suddenly told my registration is incomplete and I had to immediately fill in the form again. This is ridiculous – what a mess,” one resident said.
