"We want Destiny 3": Fans respond to Sony sunsetting Destiny 2 with a sequel petition that quickly gets 220k signatures in 4 days, and the MMO's actors are on board

It's the end of an era as Bungie is now sunsetting Destiny 2 after seven years. As players prepare for the FPS to finish, there's a growing campaign within the fanbase to get a third installment, and voice actors are now getting involved.

On June 9, the Monument of Triumph update will be the last significant patch released for Destiny 2. This has stirred up all sorts of mixed feelings across the community, including a push for Destiny 3 that's got Brandon O'Neill, the voice of Crow, Brian Villalobos, the performer behind Lodi, and more on the frontlines.

"If you're posting about Destiny, Destiny 2 in any way, how about a little #WeWantDestiny3," O'Neill says at the end of a Cameo message to the broader player-base. "I wouldn't mind the employment. I hope to see you star side. All the best, Guardians."

He confirmed to The Game Post that, although the Cameo was organized by a fan, he'd be "very happy to be involved" in a third Destiny. Villalobos is slightly more lowkey, retweeting a post about how a petition for Destiny 3 was then at 150,000 people, simply adding, "I mean." That petition has now accrued over 220,000 signatures in just four days of being live.

I imagine his feelings are much the same as O'Neill and many of the cast-members, in that they'd happily remain a part of this era-defining series and community. Sadly, these efforts may not yield much fruit for the time-being. According to reports, Bungie's planning a hefty round of layoffs following the launch of Monument of Triumph, and as now, no further continuation of Destiny is planned.

But miraculous turnarounds can and do happen. Whatever comes, Joshua David King, who voiced Oryx, sums up his feelings in a way I think many can understand. "I didn't know much about Destiny, but when I learned about the Hive, and I learned about how story-rich and lore-rich and amazing the world of this was, I fell in love," he says in a video posted on social media.

"Instantly, Oryx became a role that I knew I always knew I would hold very near and dear to my heart," he adds. "So thank you all for accepting me."
