War update: 233 combat clashes on front line over past day

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook in its operational update as of 08:00 on Thursday, May 21.

The enemy carried out one missile strike using a single missile and 98 airstrikes, dropping 325 guided aerial bombs. In addition, Russian forces used 8,902 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,047 shelling attacks on populated areas and Ukrainian military positions, including 75 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.

Russian troops launched airstrikes in particular near the settlements of Pustohorod and Tovstodubove in the Sumy region.

Ukrainian aviation, missile forces, and artillery struck five areas where enemy personnel were concentrated and hit one artillery system.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions, six combat engagements took place. Russian forces carried out two airstrikes using seven guided bombs and launched 73 shelling attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including four using MLRS systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions five times toward Izbytske and near Starytsia and Lyman.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attacked seven times toward Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Hlushkivka, and Novoosynove.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops attempted 13 times to break through Ukrainian defenses near Drobysheve, Dibrova, Ozerne, Stavky, Lyman, and Yampil.

In the Sloviansk direction, Russian forces launched five assaults near Zakitne and Rai-Oleksandrivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy carried out one assault action near Minkivka.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian invaders conducted 27 attacks toward Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Ivanopillia, Pleshchiivka, Toretske, Novopavlivka, Sofiivka, Vilne, Bilytske, and Kucheriv Yar.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 35 Russian assault actions near Rodynske, Hryshyne, Novooleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Zatyshok, Nykanorivka, Shevchenko, Vasylivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, and Molodetske.

In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy attacked five times near Oleksandrohrad, Ivanivka, and Kalynivske.

In the Huliaipole direction, Russian invaders carried out 29 attacks toward Nove Zaporizhzhia, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, Staroukrainka, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Olenokostiantynivka, and Charivne.

In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attempts by Russian troops to advance near Shcherbaky and Stepnohirsk.

In the Prydniprovske direction, the enemy conducted no offensive actions.

No signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected on the Volyn and Polissia directions.

As reported by Ukrinform, the total combat losses of Russian personnel from February 24, 2022, to May 21, 2026, reached approximately 1,352,980 troops, including 910 eliminated over the past day.
