German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on the Russian Federation to support the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and begin a ceasefire as early as tonight.

According to Ukrinform, the head of Germany's foreign ministry stated this on the social network X.

"President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has once again demonstrated that Ukraine is ready for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations. I therefore call on Russia to accept the Ukrainian proposal and to begin the truce already tonight," Wadephul said.

As reported by Ukrinform, on May 4 the Russian Ministry of Defense announced what it called a "truce in honor of the celebration of Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War," which is to last from May 8 to 9.
