US orders for defense capital goods surged in April to the second-highest level on record, adding to signs that the Iran war is boosting demand for military hardware.

Defense orders rose 7% last month to $22.2 billion following a 26% increase in March, according to Census Bureau figures published Thursday. The numbers aren’t adjusted for inflation.
