Ukraine’s air defenses down 102 out of 124 Russian drones launched overnight
Ukrinform reported this, citing a Telegram statement from the Ukrainian Air Force.
From 18:30 on Friday, May 22, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 124 strike UAVs, including Shahed-type drones, as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and various decoy drones. Launch sites included Kursk, Shatalovo, Bryansk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
The aerial attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and drone defense units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
As of 08:30 on Saturday, May 23, Ukrainian forces had downed or suppressed 102 enemy UAVs across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
Twelve drones struck nine locations, while falling debris was recorded at five additional sites. The attack is ongoing, with several groups of drones still in Ukrainian airspace.
