Russia concluded a temporary ceasefire which lasted for nearly three days with overnight strikes targeting Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday.

"Russia itself chose to end the partial silence that had lasted for several days. Overnight, more than 200 attack drones were launched against Ukraine," said Zelenskyy on X.

He shared pictures of the aftermath of the strikes, which he said targeted the Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, as well as the capital Kyiv.

What do we know about the Russian overnight strikes on Ukraine?

According to Zelenskyy, a kindergarten, energy facilities, a railway, and apartment buildings were all hit in the drone attacks. At least one civilian was killed, Ukrainian authorities said.

Russia's military did not comment on ending the three-day ceasefire, but said that it had intercepted 27 Ukrainian drones overnight.

The temporary peace had been brokered after talks between Zelenskyy, Russia's Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump last week.

The ceasefire coincided with annual celebrations held in Moscow to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II. Usually encompassing a grand military parade, the festivities were significantly scaled back this year as Russia's economy continues to decline after years of stalemate in Ukraine and fuel price hikes brought on by the US' war against Iran.

Both sides accused each other of multiple ceasefire violations over the three-day period.

Putin recently declared that he believes the war may be drawing to a close, tapping controversial former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to lead possible peace negotiations.
