Trump Celebrates Colbert’s Exit From CBS, Says of Other Late Night Hosts “May They All Rest in Peace!”
President Donald Trump celebrated Stephen Colbert’s exit from CBS following the final installment of The Late Show Thursday night.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Trump posted: “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”
Colbert of course hosted his final Late Show Thursday, a star-studded affair that ended with a performance from Paul McCartney. CBS had previously announced that this season would be the show’s last, citing the challenged economics of late night TV.
But Trump, who has been a frequent critic of most of the late night hosts, took things further Friday morning, posting that: “Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the ‘Beginning of the End’ for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts.”
“Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace!” he added.
It is not immediately clear who Trump was referring to, but NBC’s Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon have occasionally caught his ire, while ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel is a frequent target. In fact, the FCC is seeking a review of ABC’s broadcast licenses, in a move announced just days after Kimmel was the target of criticism from the President.
