This One-Of-One Manual Supercar Is A Monotone Masterpiece
The Capricorn 01 'Tutto Rosso' features a red hue on 95 percent of all of its surfaces.
the breakdown
- The Capricorn 01 'Tutto Rosso' debuts in Italy.
- A red hue covers 95 percent of the entire car.
- The car was commissioned as a one-of-one by a customer.
You may or may not have heard of the Capricorn 01. When we first wrote about it last year, we said they don’t make supercars like this anymore—and it’s true. With a supercharged V8 and a manual transmission sending power straight to the rear wheels, it’s a far cry from the hybridized, dual-clutch, all-wheel-drive supercars that are all too common.
Now, Capricorn is showing off at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este with a gorgeous one-of-one, uh, 01, that looks absolutely mega if you’re into the monotone look. It’s dubbed the 'Tutto Rosso' special—which in Italian translates loosely to "all red." You can probably guess why.
Capricorn 01 Tutto Rosso
Photo by: Capricorn GroupA whopping 95 percent of this supercar is covered in red. That’s right, 95 percent. The exterior is draped in the hue, first and foremost, joined by matching red wheels, body accents, carbon fiber details, side mirrors—and yes, even the single, central-mounted windshield wiper is red.
That red extends to the interior, with red leather on the seats, red accents on the dash, a red carbon fiber center console, a red shift knob, and of course, a red steering wheel. Even the engine bay is covered in a red carbon fiber weave.
What isn’t red? Great question. On the outside, the Capricorn logos on the front and rear of the car are spared the all-red getup. Inside, the aluminum housing on the gated shifter stays natural, as do the seat belt buckles. Other than that—not much else escapes red paint.
Robertino Wild, the CEO of Capricorn, says of the build:
What do you think? View Comments'Projects such as the Capricorn 01 Zagato Tutto Rosso are not driven by styling alone. They challenge us to rethink how materials, engineering, and aesthetics interact at every level of the car. When a customer approaches us with a vision like this, it becomes an opportunity to push our own capabilities further, not only in terms of design, but in how we industrialize and validate such an extreme configuration as part of our development program.'
As you’d expect, the company doesn’t list a price for this one-of-one creation. But buyers who are interested in a standard version of the Capricorn 01 will have to shell out no fewer than €2.95 million ($3.4 million at today's exchange rate). But with 888 horsepower and a six-speed manual at your disposal—you get what you pay for.
Motor1's Take: Monotone supercars can be hit and miss—but this example of the Capricorn 01 pulls off the aesthetic. Paired with a powerful engine and a gated shifter, this buyer should be very happy with his custom creation.
