'Labour risking 'lost generation' and 'Britain's gone balmy!'2 hours agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleBBCSeveral of Thursday's front pages lead with a new report about unemployment among young people. A warning that "Labour risking a 'lost generation' of jobless youth" leads The Mail. The paper summarises a line from former Labour Cabinet Minister Alan Milburn's report as saying one in six young people "will be on the dole without major welfare reform." The Mail also carries another subhead on the Labour party: "Blair and Burnham's war of words erupts".The "calls for welfare reforms to save young people" also top The i Paper. It reports Milburn is expected to propose more funding for training and schemes to support young people in the workplace. The Times pulls out a different line from the report, that "over half of Neets have never held a job". Neets stands for young people not in employment, education or training. The top story for the Times is "ministers raise heat on PM over North Sea" as they "dispute claim that drilling won't cut bills".With a rise in heating bills, the Metro says "Britain's gone balmy!" Millions of families will face a "scorching 13% rise" to warm their homes, it writes. As "households are warned of a huge hike in energy bills," the Daily Express is topped with a call from former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair that it is "time to scrap Ed's net zero 'fantasy'." Referring to Energy and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband, the paper notes these comments come after Sir Tony "blasts Labour for lacking a coherent plan." The Daily Telegraph headlines on reporting that former British ambassador to the US Lord Peter Mandelson "told Cabinet how to do their jobs". The paper says files due to be released next week on the peer's time in Washington will show he "often messaged senior Labour politicians and officials with suggestions on how to conduct official business far outside his remit". It also carries the picture of a young woman, with the caption: "I was a Palestine activist... then I went to Israel."The Guardian also leads with Mandelson, highlighting that his vetting "warned of ties to key figures in Russia and China". It also says the vetting agency had raised concern over a £1m loan he received to invest in an Israeli startup."Trump's war: the rising cost to you" is the Independent's top story, as it breaks down rising prices on individual items "three months into the military campaign against Iran". Mortgages are up £821, energy £221, petrol £14.53 and meals 89p.Following the deaths of seven children and two adults while swimming in "heatwave horror," the Daily Mirror warns to "be safe in water.. or more will die."In an exclusive on former model Katie Price, the Sun says she is claiming her husband Lee Andrews is imprisoned in Dubai for "spying". "Game of drones" tops the Daily Star, as it says "England's World Cup base will be guarded by security chiefs armed with 'hunter-catcher' drones to stop rival teams spying."
