The Papers: 'Burnham plans to return' and 'Four weeks from crunch'

The head of the Metropolitan Police has told the Times that while police could deal with the "symptoms" of antisemitism, successive governments have failed to do enough to tackle the "disease". The paper says Sir Mark Rowley hailed the two officers who arrested the Golders Green knife attack suspect as "heroes," after they were criticised by Green Party leader Zack Polanski. Describing him as "Wacko Zacko", it says he was finally dragged into a partial "sorry" a day too late. The Daily Mail says pressure is growing on Polanski to purge antisemites from his party. A Green Party source told the paper that a handful of its candidates had displayed behaviour which failed to align with its values - and these were being carefully looked at.
The Daily Telegraph says Health Secretary Wes Streeting has recruited the backing of more than 81 Labour MPs - enough to launch a leadership bid. The paper says Sir Keir Starmer was alerted to Streeting's intentions when a Downing Street staff member was accidentally texted details - including his "PFG" or plan for government. A spokesman for Streeting tells the paper that he has said repeatedly that he supports the prime minister.
The Guardian reports claims that the Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, has a credible plan to return to Westminster within weeks. The former cabinet minister was blocked by Labour's ruling body from standing in the Gorton and Denton by-election. The paper says he has identified several seats where MPs are prepared to step aside so he can mount a leadership bid. The Mail says Sir Keir's allies have warned against ousting him. The paper quotes one source who says this could lead to Ed Miliband or Angela Rayner taking charge. They add that: "A left-wing Liz Truss, with no real mandate, would be the end of the Labour Party."
The FT Weekend warns that the oil market is just four weeks from a "tipping point," because of the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Times predicts looming disruption to holidays from next month, as the government prepares to warn of a potential shortage of jet fuel. The Daily Express says rising fuel prices could force fishing boats to stay in port, as their costs could soon outweigh their earnings.
The Daily Mirror says the monarch's dazzling diplomacy skills have been on show again in Bermuda. According to the i paper, his masterclass in the US has boosted the monarchy. The Sun says the King may have both mended the UK's special relationship with the US and rescued the Royal Family.
