The best cars in Forza Horizon 6 for each race type

There are over 550 vehicles in Forza Horizon 6, which unsurprisingly makes knowing which are the best cars quite a challenge. And some of these vehicles are very expensive. But money isn't everything. In fact, lots of the best cars are actually pretty cheap, even with some tuning done under the hood.

As you'd expect, there's no single vehicle that'll do everything in Forza Horizon 6. It's more based on what type of event you're competing in, namely, whether you're driving on tarmac, bounding over dirt paths, or trying to drift around corners in style. That's why I'll be breaking down what rides you should be using based on the type of activity you're doing.

Here's an overview of what cars I recommend for each race type:

Best cars for road/street races in Forza Horizon 6

Now, you might be a little confused as to what the difference is between road and street racing. Road races are typically on specialised race tracks, so expect lots of tight or tricky corners, some nice straights, and no traffic. Meanwhile, street races take place on standard roads, including around Tokyo. These track layouts demand a bit more versatility from your car. I generally prefer using top-range R-rank cars for road racing, but slower (relatively, obviously) S-rank cars for street races.

2025 GR GT Prototype

The 2025 GR GT Prototype (it's a Toyota) is perhaps my favourite car in all of Forza Horizon 6, in part because of how it handles but also because it looks stunning. It's the cover car for a reason, I suppose. I've decked it out with slick race tyres, fully widened both the front and back tyres, and slightly widened the track widths, and this beast stays firmly planted on the ground.

2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo

The 2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo costs a whopping 4.5 million credits, so I'd like to think it's one of the best road and street cars in the game—though there's also a Welcome Pack version, if you have it. It boasts remarkable speed, handling, and braking without any tuning, so it's only up from there. Because it's so powerful, be careful on tight tracks.

2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie

With a default rating of 9.2, the Valkyrie is one of the fastest cars in Forza Horizon 6 once it reaches top speed, and it also handles pretty well with a bit of tuning. The only drawback is its rather slow acceleration compared to the likes of the Ferrari FXX-K Evo.

2013 McLaren P1

I might be a little biased since it's my dream car, but the McLaren P1 is a great choice for road and street races where you can really take advantage of its lightning-quick top speed. However, its acceleration is comparatively slow for a supercar, so there are better picks for particularly twisty courses.

2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO

The 2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO, not to be confused with the various other GT-Rs or NISMOs, is the opposite of the McLaren P1. Its top speed isn't anything remarkable by default, but it's quick off the line. This acceleration makes it ideal for tracks with lots of bends.

2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS, or its little brother, the 2021 911 GT3, are quintessential street racers. They might not have the best top speed, launch, or even acceleration, but they're fast enough and very zippy. With slick or semi-slick tyres and a wider wheel base, it's perfect for tight tracks.

Best cars for dirt races in Forza Horizon 6

Dirt races are fully off-road affairs, where you'll be rocking off-road or rally tyres for extra grip on the rough terrain. Given that it feels like most of Forza Horizon 6's main events are dirt races, you'll want a dedicated car for this race type.

2022 Subaru BRZ 'Forza Edition'

This car undeniably looks rather odd, but it's a beast in both off-road and cross-country events (it earns its perfect 10 rating), especially when tuned for better handling and speed. Unlike most cars, you'll need to visit a specific location to get it, that being the Aftermarket spot at the Ski Resort in Sotoyama.

2001 Ford #4 Ford Focus RS

I love my Ford Focus RS rally car, and it's often what I default to even if there are slightly better options in some cases. The reason is that it's so scrappy, with high speed, acceleration, and off-road handling really letting you throw yourself around corners with reckless abandon.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

Is there a more iconic rally car than a Subaru Impreza? I think not. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the Subaru's on offer. The 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI is dirt cheap (pun intended), and rocks a very general stat spread, with plenty of headroom for upgrades without bumping into A-rank.

2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR

Mouthful of a name aside, the 2004 Lancer Evolution is another perfect rally car. It's very similar to the Subaru Impreza, just with slightly higher stats across the board. There's even a Welcome Pack edition that comes pre-tuned to A-rank.

Best cars for cross-country races in Forza Horizon 6

Cross-country races are a bit of a red herring in Forza Horizon 6, as most of these tracks are actually just off-road, with only a small stretch on tarmac. Still, you'll need a car that can handle both dirt and tarmac.

2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R

Its default handling might be an eyesore on paper, but the F-150 makes up for it with a lot of power. Plus, it's great for ramming your opponents. Just saying. With this in mind, I recommend focusing on improving handling first and foremost, and then bumping up the max speed even more.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

The Land Cruiser might look a lot less rugged than the Subaru BRZ or Ford Raptor, but it's a very reliable all-terrain vehicle. I would recommend you tune up its acceleration and braking, though, especially for tracks with lots of bends.

2022 Subaru BRZ 'Forza Edition'

Since most cross-country races actually take place predominantly off-road, I still recommend this weird machine for all the same reasons that make it a monster on those dirt tracks.

Best drift cars in Forza Horizon 6

Drifting is the game's most unique event, where you'll need a very specialised car to do basically anything at all. Without the proper tuning, you'll tend to just spin out. It's all about weight distribution—you want the engine in the front, and rear-wheel drive. However, since drift cars are designed to glide around bends with ease, they're not all that useful outside of these situations.

2020 Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra

Clues in the name, you can't go wrong with the Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra. Even with stock parts this car really wants to glide around corners whipping up smoke, and it only gets better with a little tuning.

2002 Nissan Silvia Spec-R

The humble Nissan Silvia is a lot more unassuming than any of the Formula Drift cars. But with a strong engine, and wide drift tyres, this coupe really swings around corners and is enough to complete most of the drift challenges.

Some good alternatives include the 1994 Nissan Silvia K's or the 1998 Toyota Supra RZ. Even more muscle cars like a late 2010's Chevrolet Camaro work well if you want to look a little cooler.
