The Bachelor is poised to make its return to ABC in 2027 following a period marked by significant challenges for the long-running reality television franchise.

Despite mounting obstacles over the past year and a half, Disney's reality television division head Rob Mills has expressed optimism about the franchise's ability to bounce back and reclaim its former prominence.

Navigating Recent Controversies

The storied dating competition franchise has faced unprecedented headwinds in recent times. The departure of its two lead creative executives preceded additional complications when ABC made the difficult decision to shelve an entire season of The Bachelorette. This decision stemmed from domestic assault allegations involving the season's lead, Taylor Frankie Paul, known for her role in the Netflix documentary series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

Leadership Expresses Confidence in Recovery

During remarks to industry media, Mills acknowledged the format's inherent strengths and historical track record. "The Bachelor is almost a perfect format and it is really powerful," Mills stated. "It's over two decades old, and it's seen really good days and really bad days. But it's always had a lot of resilience, especially when the people making it really, really care about it, because that fan base also really cares about it."

Mills emphasized that the franchise's return would prioritize a measured approach. "However The Bachelor comes back next year, it will be done with a lot of thoughtfulness and care," he added. "I do think better days are ahead for the franchise."
