Tesla Signals Robotaxi Delays Across Five Major US Markets

Tesla's latest quarterly earnings report suggests the electric vehicle manufacturer may be postponing its Robotaxi service launch in five of the eight American cities where availability was previously announced.

The company has maintained a long-standing commitment to deploying autonomous taxi services throughout the United States and eventually worldwide. However, the recent earnings announcement appears to indicate a recalibration of these rollout timelines.

Background on Tesla's Autonomous Driving Initiatives

Tesla began offering its "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) system to consumers as far back as 2016. Nevertheless, despite its name, the system has not actually enabled vehicles to operate without human intervention, either at its inception or in its current iteration.

Around the same period, Tesla introduced the concept of the "Tesla Network," envisioned as an autonomous ride-hailing platform. Under this model, owners of vehicles equipped with FSD technology would theoretically be able to deploy their cars as autonomous taxis, generating supplementary income through passive earnings. To date, this service has not materialized.
