Swedish prosecutor urges prison for man charged with prostituting his wife

The defendant, 62, is accused of arranging paid meetings between men and his spouse and pushing her to perform sexual acts online

A Swedish prosecutor on Monday called for a 10-year prison sentence against a man on trial for allegedly prostituting out his wife to around 120 clients.

The court proceedings against the 62-year-old defendant, in the northern town of Harnosand, were largely being conducted behind closed doors.

He is accused of having created internet adverts, arranging the paid meetings between the men who answered and his spouse, and pushing her to perform sexual acts online to attract more clients.

Although selling sex is not illegal in Sweden, buying sex is, and arranging or profiting from prostitution is also illegal.

The man has been charged with aggravated pimping and eight rapes for acts committed between August 2022 and October 2025.

The wife, who was described by the prosecution as a victim “in a vulnerable situation”, is demanding the equivalent of US$120,000 in damages should he be found guilty.
