Fashion's Elite Gather for Star-Studded London Premiere of Devil Wears Prada Sequel
Over two decades after the original film captivated audiences, the cast reunited under clear London skies Wednesday evening to mark the arrival of the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic fashion industry drama.
The returning ensemble — featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in their original roles — was joined by newcomers Simone Ashley and Kenneth Branagh for the continuation of the beloved story. Like its 2006 predecessor, the new installment explores the intricate dynamics among its protagonist characters as they navigate the evolving landscape of fashion journalism and media.
Cast Reflects on Returning to Iconic Roles
During red carpet interviews with the BBC, Hathaway expressed enthusiasm about reprising her role, recalling the decisive moment two decades ago when she first committed to the original project. "It was so much fun," she remarked about the experience of returning to the franchise.
Blunt, resuming her portrayal of the sharp-tongued Emily Charlton, described the transition back into character as seamless. "It was effortless — like a comfortable pair of old slippers," the actress explained.
The London-born performer noted that when the original film premiered, neither she nor her colleagues anticipated its enduring cultural impact. "I didn't know it was going to have this epic life and multi-generational embrace," Blunt said, adding that her own children recently viewed the sequel and responded positively to it.
She reflected on the unexpected phenomenon surrounding the production itself: "When we started shooting the second one, I don't know that we imagined it would have the fever that it did. We were really expecting to just shoot the sequel and people might be excited. But when thousands of people hit the streets to watch us film, I was like, 'oh wow, this is nuts'."
New Generation Joins the Ranks
Content creator Amelia Dimoldenberg, who appears briefly in the film, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity. The social media personality revealed that the original feature proved transformative in her life trajectory. "I remember seeing it when I was 12 years old at the cinema, and I don't want to sound dramatic, but I do think it changed my life," she stated. "It's the reason why I went and studied fashion journalism and always wanted to work in magazines."
Writer and comedian Caleb Hearon, cast as one of Miranda Priestly's assistants, acknowledged his lifelong admiration for the franchise while maintaining professional composure during filming. "It was very, very exciting and humbling and honouring to be around all the incredible people who worked on the film," he shared.
Bridgerton star Simone Ashley similarly praised her experience working alongside established cast members. "Emily, Annie, Stanley and Meryl — everyone was just so wonderful, so lovely," Ashley said, describing her involvement as "one of the highlights of my career" and noting that observing the veteran performers functioned as a masterclass in acting.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in United Kingdom cinemas on 1 May.
