Iconic Cast Reunites at London Premiere of The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Over Two Decades Later
The stars of the beloved fashion film gathered on a bright London evening to mark the arrival of the long-awaited follow-up to the 2006 original. More than 20 years after the first The Devil Wears Prada captivated audiences, principal cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci came together to celebrate the premiere of its sequel.
Original Cast Returns with Fresh Additions
All four of the original film's lead performers have returned to reprise their roles, alongside new cast members Simone Ashley and Kenneth Branagh. The sequel maintains the thematic foundation of its predecessor, exploring the intricate dynamics between its central characters as they navigate the evolving world of fashion journalism.
During her appearance at the red carpet event, Hathaway reflected on her involvement, describing the experience as "so much fun" and noting the appeal of returning to a project she had committed to "20 years ago".
Blunt characterised her return to the role of Emily as "effortless - like a comfortable pair of old slippers"." She revealed that her children had already seen the film and thoroughly enjoyed it, while acknowledging that the original production "didn't know it was going to have this epic life and multi-generational embrace."
Unexpected Public Reception
Blunt expressed surprise at the level of public enthusiasm surrounding the sequel's production. "When thousands of people hit the streets to watch us film, I was like, 'oh wow, this is nuts'," she remarked, noting that the filmmakers had not anticipated such fervent interest during the shooting process in New York.
New Generation Joins the Franchise
Content creator Amelia Dimoldenberg, who makes a brief appearance in the film, described the original movie as transformative for her personal trajectory. "I remember seeing it when I was 12 years old... I do think it changed my life," she explained. She credited the film with inspiring her decision to pursue fashion journalism and work in magazine publishing.
Comedian and writer Caleb Hearon, who plays an assistant to Miranda Priestly in the sequel, acknowledged his longstanding admiration for the franchise while emphasising his professional composure during filming. "It was very, very exciting and humbling and honouring to be around all the incredible people who worked on the film," he stated.
Bridgerton star Simone Ashley, who also portrays one of Miranda's assistants, described the role as "one of the highlights of my career." She praised her collaborators, noting that working alongside Blunt, Hathaway, Tucci and Streep provided her with "a masterclass" in acting.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in United Kingdom cinemas on 1 May.
