I would dive right into the Slime Seas Trello for the best overview of all the progression mechanics in the game. It's basically a developer-approved Wiki made by the Slime Seas community. It's got info on:

But don't stop there as the SS Discord is full of useful information like announcements, upcoming updates, patch logs for buffs and nerfs and much more.
