Whether you should send a distress call or a warning in Directive 8020 is one of the later decisions, but it also feels like one of the most important. The way the player character talks it up, you start to wonder whether this choice could have an impact on your overall outcome. This is a game of consequences, after all.

At least, that's what I thought, so I made sure to check what happens either way, but the crux of it is that it doesn't really matter, so go ahead and choose whichever you wish.

Whether you choose Warn or Hope in Directive 8020 doesn't make a difference to the story, and only results in two alternative cutscenes.

In a way, this is a good thing, it means you can choose whichever answer you want. Narratively, though, it's a little disappointing, especially since the character discussing it suggests it could have a huge impact on Earth. Without saying too much, though, you'll soon learn that neither message means much at all.

What's more, three characters can be in play when making this decision. Depending on who remains alive - for which you may want to consult my guide to saving everyone in Directive 8020 - Stafford, Eisele, or Young could be making the call, but this also doesn't have an impact the affect.
