Romanian Filmmaker Constantin Popescu To Direct First Two Features In New Supernatural Franchise ‘Birds Of The Soul’
Romanian filmmaker Constantin Popescu has signed on to direct the first two features in a new supernatural franchise that Just Entertainment and AiMation are launching, titled Birds of the Soul.
The franchise synopsis reads: “Set in the Carpathian Mountains in 1917, the first film follows a remote village gripped by unexplained events as wartime paranoia collides with ancient mythology and supernatural forces.”
Just Entertainment and AiMation have said production on the first two installments is slated to begin back-to-back in November 2026 in the Dominican Republic.
“Birds of the Soul is designed as a grounded supernatural epic that explores faith, fear, and survival through a distinctly cinematic lens,” P.J. Pettiett of Just Entertainment said in a statement. “Constantin brings an extraordinary level of realism and atmosphere to this world, and we believe the franchise has the potential to resonate globally.”

Popescu added: “What drew me to the project was the opportunity to build something mythic and emotional within the reality of war. At its core, this is a story about humanity confronting forces it cannot fully understand.”
