Modern Warfare 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. The news arrives as Activision announces its plans for Call of Duty 2026, with Infinity Ward once again at the helm as it strives to deliver the most ambitious package in the series' recent history. A campaign dealing with an invasion of South Korea, seen from multiple sides of the conflict; a multiplayer offering that's promising more precision and accuracy than ever before; and the return of DMZ, the Call of Duty extraction shooter. And for the first time in over a decade, owners of Nintendo hardware can get in on the action.

"It's been smooth, to be honest. Things just work," says Jack O'Hara, co-studio head of Infinity Ward in an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+. "The game got up and running on the platform really quickly once we got the hardware. So far it's been really good. To be honest, it's been really fun to be on a new platform."

The last Call of Duty game to release on Nintendo hardware was Infinity Ward's 2013 effort Call of Duty: Ghosts, although it's by no means the only title in the series to land on the platforms. In fact, O'Hara chuckles as he recalls shipping Modern Warfare Reflex Edition for Wii back in '07, along with a smattering of other titles for Nintendo DS. Still, the return of Call of Duty to Nintendo hardware has been a long time coming – and court-mandated.

It seems like ancient history now, doesn't it? But back in 2023, Microsoft ended up aligning a 10-year contractual agreement between Activision, Nintendo, and Xbox in an effort to clear its $68.7bn acquisition of Activision Blizzard through the court system following heavy scrutiny from organizations like the FTC and CMA, as well as legal challenges from Sony – who feared Xbox would make Call of Duty an Xbox platform exclusive.

The agreement not only ensured that Call of Duty games would land on Nintendo consoles for a period of 10 years, but that they would have 'full feature and content parity' with versions of the games on other platforms. I asked O'Hara whether Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer on Switch 2 would share servers with those playing on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and he had this to say: "Right now we support crossplay between Switch 2 and the rest of the platforms. But we'll see at launch exactly where the mix ends up."

Modern Warfare 4 is being developed natively for Nintendo Switch 2, in a partnership between Infinity Ward and Digital Legends. If you aren't familiar with the studio, Digital Legends was acquired by Activision Blizzard in 2021 for its two decades of expertise in developing mobile titles. The team helped ship Call of Duty Warzone Mobile and has otherwise assisted in the production of Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 in the years since.

Modern Warfare 4 is coming to PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X on October 23, 2026. Check out other key releases that are arriving ahead of GTA 6 in our schedule for all the new games of 2026.
