‘Proof’, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ & ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ Fill Seats During Springtime Crunch – Broadway Box Office
Broadway box office sagged a bit last week, possibly as the previous week’s Easter vacationers and spring-breakers returned home and a crowded, 40-show production slate with lots of newcomers competed with one another for attention.
The winners among the recent arrivals, at least in terms of attendance relative to capacities? Proof, virtually selling out the Booth for a gross of $935,431; The Rocky Horror Show, at 98% of capacity at Studio 54 for a gross of $727,283 (a Wednesday matinee was canceled); and Dog Day Afternoon, SRO at the August Wilson, $1,114,914.
Other spring arrivals Giant ($1,215,687) and Every Brilliant Thing ($1,566,354) continued strong showings, and Ragtime was boffo as always at $1,152,711.
