The Pentagon scrapped plans to send about 4,000 Army troops to Poland, people familiar with the matter said, part of a broader review of the US military presence in Europe as President Donald Trump feuds with Germany and other members of the NATO alliance.

The affected troops belong to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat team based in Ft. Hood, Texas, and some were already on their way, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations. The unit’s deployment was announced in March as part of what the Army said was “a regular rotation of forces.”
