Overwatch Season 3's hero seemingly teased thanks to an event featuring a J-pop group and new cosmetics
Overwatch Season 3's new hero has seemingly been teased, and it's all thanks to an upcoming in-game event that's also bringing fresh cosmetics and an animated music video from a real-world J-pop group.
Blizzard Entertainment today announced a new Overwatch event coming on June 30, billed as a collaboration with pop duo Yoasobi. The event promises new skins for the game's Japanese heroes (Kiriko, Genji, Hanzo), an original song from the group, and an animated music video. All in all, it follows the same blueprint the team set out with its Le Sserafim K-pop collab.

What's different here is that the Overwatch team also dropped a pretty substantial short story a whole month early as part of the crossover called The Fall of a Sparrow, written by E.C. Myers. The lore drop sees Genji on a recon mission to gather information about the seedy Hashimoto Clan that's been teased elsewhere, too.
Latest Videos FromThings get real interesting near the end when the criminal clan captures Genji and brings him to a "shadowy figure" who's running the whole show. Here's the closing interaction in full:
"What is this supposed to be?" The figure spoke in a disdainful tone. There was a mechanical, robotic tinge to her voice. "A Shimada, judging by his sword and fighting style," the lieutenant said. Metal thunked onto the desk. "Really?" the elder said, leaning forward. "You have my interest."
Overwatch fans have for months theorized that Season 3's hero will somehow be connected to the Hashimoto Clan after the devs released a roadmap promising a new Japan-set map alongside the horned, mechanical silhouette seen in the headline image above. Together with a Mizuki short story that also made mention of an intimidating lady behind the organization, it's not hard to see where the speculation comes from.
Overwatch Season 3 should be arriving sometime in the middle of June, so we'll find out if Hashimoto's mysterious leader is the game's next hero pretty soon.
