Sean Combs' $100M Defamation Suit Against NBCUniversal Dismissed by New York Judge

While awaiting an appellate court decision on his criminal charges, incarcerated hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs received unfavorable news from the civil courts. A New York judge has dismissed his defamation action against NBCUniversal, marking a significant setback in his legal battles.

Empire State Supreme Court Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond ruled against the Bad Boy Records founder's lawsuit, which sought $100 million in damages over the Peacock documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. The action, originally filed on February 25, 2025, was not merely dismissed but rejected with considerable scrutiny from the bench.

Judge Perry-Bond determined that the documentary could not have damaged Combs' reputation, given that his public standing had already been significantly compromised by prior events. The court cited multiple factors contributing to the deterioration of his image, including numerous lawsuits, a domestic violence video, extensive media coverage, and a criminal indictment that all preceded the documentary's release.

The ruling underscores the legal challenges facing the Grammy Award-winning artist as he continues to navigate both criminal proceedings and civil litigation.
