The USA is becoming a true backwater nation. Following the lame, anti-EV trend that is so atypical globally right now (more on that coming later today), Nissan has decided not to produce electric vehicles in the United States (as once planned) and to instead produce expensive gas powered pickup trucks on those production lines instead.

Nissan will build the Xterra, a new SUV, and an updated version of the Frontier pickup truck in its Mississippi factory, as well as other related body-on-frame vehicles.

Back in 2021, when Joe Biden was president and Democrats were in control of Congress, Nissan had other plans. It planned to invest $500 million into the plant and then build two EV models there. That would mean the company would have more affordable, more competitive, potentially popular electric vehicles in the United States. On April 30, though, the company sent an email to suppliers that it was cancelling those plans. The change, according to an email to Automotive News confirming the shift, was due to “market conditions, customer demand, and Nissan’s updated strategic direction.”
