Far-Right Influencer Nick Fuentes Publicly Denounces His Own Supporters After CNN Appearance
A contentious online dispute erupted after two of the pundit's devoted followers participated in a cable news interview, triggering a barrage of criticism from their leader over their physical appearance and representation of the movement.
The controversial sequence of events unfolded last week when two committed followers of far-right commentator Nick Fuentes agreed to participate in an interview with CNN's Donie O'Sullivan. The segment was designed to explore their growing online political movement, which members refer to as the "groyper" community—a term describing a collection of performatively white nationalist individuals known for their anti-immigration, antisemitic, Islamophobic, homophobic and sexist rhetoric, distinguished primarily by their focus on generating provocative and attention-grabbing online content.
Among the participants was John Lawrence, one of the two young men who consented to the interview. Following the taping, Lawrence shared several photographs from the segment on his Instagram account, which reportedly concentrates on groyper-related material and has accumulated more than 40,000 followers. In one image featuring O'Sullivan, Lawrence claimed that he and his fellow participant were "mogging" the journalist—a term meaning they appeared more attractive, masculine and physically superior.
As images from the CNN taping circulated throughout online communities, sentiment shifted markedly. Critics questioned whether the two representatives adequately embodied the movement's aesthetic standards, characterizing them instead as overweight, nerdy, and unsuitable spokespersons for their cause.
Fuentes subsequently launched a public attack against his two supporters. In a series of posts that reflected the hostile, sarcastic and immature communication style prevalent within his movement, the influencer targeted Lawrence's appearance with particular ferocity.
"What the actual fuck is this," Fuentes initially posted, expressing mock bewilderment at the men's willingness to represent his movement on national television.
His critique escalated sharply: "Do not claim to represent me if you are dressed like that and are +25 BMI," he wrote, before retreating into a disclaimer: "As a matter of fact nobody represent me at all."
The attacks continued with increasingly dark undertones. "For CNN. Can't wait for this lmao. For fucks sake. It just keeps getting better. I AM NEVER COMING BACK," he posted alongside video footage of the three men. He then wrote "Everything I supported in the past, I am now against. Fuck goyim" before adding "Can someone come kill me immediately," paired with a close-up photograph of Lawrence's footwear.
The influencer completed his campaign of ridicule by posting an image of the animated character Peter Griffin falling from a window.
Fuentes' online following subsequently engaged in coordinated harassment of the two men, with community members calling for Lawrence to be publicly identified and have his personal life destroyed. They also created derogatory caricatures circulating on social media platforms.
As of now, the CNN segment remains unaired, with observers uncertain whether the network will broadcast the interview amid the ongoing online harassment of its subjects.
