Now, an international group that fights to address the causes and effects of sexual violence against children and adolescents is singling out France for particular criticism. The NGO Cameleon says that France, and the rest of Europe as well, is becoming a haven for online child sexual abuse content.
Two years ago, French servers hosted just 1 percent of URLs that led to child sexual abuse material, but last year that figure dramatically rose to 7 percent.
France is now the fifth-largest country for such content globally after only Bulgaria, the United States, the Netherlands and Romania.
In Perspective, we spoke to Eglantine Cami, advocacy officer for Cameleon.
