Military shooter fans rejoice because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has just been announced, and it's heading our way this year.
Ever since 2007's release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the offshoot has become a staple in the FPS space, so needless to say, it's already on our list of the most anticipated new games on the near horizon. Keeping that in mind, I've made a handy guide to keep you up to speed on the latest news and all the details that you need to know about the next bullet-filled outing.
Below you'll find information about the Modern Warfare 4 release date, confirmed platforms, campaign insights and all the gameplay features and changes that you can expect. I also plan to keep this page updated as and when fresh news drops so be sure to check in regularly for one of the best FPS games on the way.
Modern Warfare 4 release date
The good news is that we already have a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release date, and it's October 23, 2026. That means that we are just a few months away from some shooter goodness, folks.
This news came our way on May 28, 2026, and so far it looks like there will be no delays in sight. We'll let you know if anything changes, but in the meantime, you can catch-up on the Black Ops timeline by checking out our guide to all of the Call of Duty games in order.
Modern Warfare 4 platforms
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is heading too all the new-gen consoles and PC, so that means PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S players will be getting their hands on it once it releases.
Considering how exclusives are becoming more commonplace as of late (looking at you Sony) seeing the game confirmed for all the major platforms is a breath of fresh air. We are still waiting for cross-play details and confirmation, but we assume there won't be any issues with playing multiplayer with mates across different systems. Fingers crossed our hunch is correct.

Modern Warfare 4 campaign
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign is centered around the Korean Peninsula, with the threat of a full-scale invasion of South Korea sparking potential global destabilization.
However, despite the focus on Korea and the trench style warfare that we will be experiencing there, the game will feature some more locations, too, with missions taking us to the likes of New York, Mumbai, and Paris. It does seem like we will be in for a very cinematic and big story folks.
In terms of more plot details for the campaign, we also have some very interesting character insights already. So far we know that we'll be seeing Private Park in the campaign, a young Korean grunt soldier, who is thrust into combat for the first time. Expect to see a journey from "zero to hero" here as Park and his company have to survive against some impossible odds. Captain Price will also return and will set up a rogue alliance, where he'll operate outside the system. Very intriguing.
I'll keep my eyes peeled as more information drops, but for now, the campaign does seem like it will be a gritty and blockbuster coded affair.
Modern Warfare 4 gameplay
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward that features a single-player campaign, multiplayer and DMZ.
The campaign mode will have players following a narrative as they complete various missions that offer variations of military-based gameplay such as close-quarters battles, high-speed pursuits, SAS night raids, and city-wide assaults.
For multiplayer, on day one players will deploy across 12 all-new core 6v6 maps set in visually and tactically distinct locations around the world. These various maps are built to support a range of playstyles from tight close-quarters combat to more open engagements. Multiplayer also features dedicated Gunfight maps, Big War maps (for vehicle and infantry fans), and a dynamic battleground with more than 500 configurations called Kill Block.
Finally, DMZ is something for all you extraction shooter enthusiasts. This is a living sandbox, where you (either solo or with a squad) are sent into a living combat zone and are tasked with recovering advanced military technology. The exclusion zones are also constantly shifting, keeping things fresh with weather changes, military objectives and plenty of hostiles for you to deal with as well.
Besides these three core gameplay offerings, it's also worth mentioning that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is giving players more choice than ever before through two Prestige paths: Classic Prestige and Regular Prestige. Classic Prestige delivers the traditional reset experience, relocking Create-a-Class progression in exchange for increased XP earn rates and access to exclusive Prestige rewards.
Ballistic Authority is also a new weapon-first technology stack that is used to deliver the most authentic gunplay experience in Modern Warfare yet too by unifying precision aiming, physical handling, realistic audio propagation, enhanced visibility, and smarter combat perception. Honestly, it all sounds like we'll be getting very precise and fair shooting experiences with this one, which is always welcomed.
