Welsh Actors Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells to Lead West End's First Major 'Amadeus' Revival in Over a Decade
Two acclaimed performers will embody Mozart and Salieri in Jeremy Herrin's highly anticipated staging of Peter Shaffer's classic drama, launching in Cardiff before heading to London's iconic theatre district.
Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells have been cast as the feuding composers Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in an upcoming production of Amadeus, representing the first substantial revival of Peter Shaffer's masterwork in more than ten years. The casting is particularly noteworthy as it marks the inaugural occasion when two Welsh-born performers have simultaneously occupied these pivotal roles in a single production.
The staging will be helmed by director Jeremy Herrin and is being jointly presented by Second Half Productions and Welsh National Theatre. The production will commence performances at New Theatre Cardiff, running from March 9 through March 27, 2027. Following its Welsh engagement, the show is scheduled to transfer to London's West End, where it will occupy the Noël Coward Theatre for a 16-week engagement spanning April 17 to August 7, 2027.
