The highly anticipated revival of the iconic 1980s crime series is heading to theaters in 2027 under the direction of Joseph Kosinski.

Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the title and casting details for its forthcoming Miami Vice reboot, which will be called Miami Vice '85. The project marks a significant undertaking, enlisting Oscar-winning filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, to helm the feature film adaptation.

The motion picture is slated to arrive in cinemas on August 6, 2027, with filming commencing later in 2026. Notably, the production will be specifically shot for IMAX format, promising an expansive cinematic experience for audiences.

The lead roles have been assigned to two prominent actors from the current Hollywood landscape. Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan will take on the character of Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, while Oscar-nominated actor Austin Butler will portray James "Sonny" Crockett. These casting choices represent a modern interpretation of the characters originally brought to life by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson during the television series' original run in the 1980s.

This marks the second major film adaptation of the beloved series, following the 2006 theatrical release that featured Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in the lead roles, directed by Michael Mann.
