Miami GP: Cue talks F1 movie sequel, streaming rights expansion, Ternus’s love for racing

As the 2026 F1 season lands in Miami for the first of three U.S. races for the year, Apple SVP of Services and Health Eddy Cue spoke to the press about the company’s growing involvement in the sport, including John Ternus’s passion for racing. Here are the details.

Cue says Ternus will strengthen Apple’s relationship with F1

As reported by Reuters, Eddy Cue told the press at the Miami Grand Prix that he “hopes and expects” there will be a sequel to F1: The Movie.

His remarks come a little more than two months after F1: The Movie’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, told the BBC that a sequel to Apple’s Academy Award-winning movie was “officially in the works.”

That followed comments from Eddy Cue himself just days earlier, when he raised the topic during Apple’s TV press day.

At the time, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was on stage alongside Cue, told the press to “stay tuned” after Cue brought up a possible sequel in a tongue-in-cheek exchange.

Back to the Miami GP, Cue also talked about Apple’s hopes of expanding its streaming rights for F1 races globally.

“The sport doesn’t get licensed on a global basis,” he added. “Do I hope that we are ​able to grow into other areas and markets? Yeah, I do.

“But starting in the U.S. ​which is a huge market for us, and being able to build from there, is definitely the right ‌way ⁠to do it. And that’s what we are focused on right now. The easiest way for us to continue to grow is to make sure we make this a huge success.

“And then of course it would be great to expand it.”

Finally, Cue also made a point to mention John Ternus’s love for motorsports, claiming that Apple’s next CEO is even more interested in the sport than Tim Cook:

“John actually drives a Porsche and does amateur racing,” he explained. “He would actually be here ​this weekend but he’s at Laguna Seca.

“So rest assured if anything he’s ​going to ⁠be at more races even than Tim. He’s a huge, huge fan of F1 and he’s known about this, he’s a huge supporter. So you’ll continue to see full support from him.

Apple has been investing heavily in the Miami GP, with a special 3D experience in Apple Maps, and a homepage takeover on its website.
