Man shot dead by police in Bedford
BBCA man has been shot dead by police in Bedford after an overnight standoff, Bedfordshire Police has said.
The force confirmed it was initially called to reports of vehicles being damaged in Aylesbury Road, at about 22:40 BST on Monday.
It said that "despite sustained efforts over a number of hours to engage with the man and bring the incident to a safe resolution", the man "presented a weapon before police fired" at about 09:30 on Tuesday.
The man was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30, the police said, adding that the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
