macOS 26.5 now available, here’s everything new

Apple is rolling out macOS 26.5 to all Macs compatible with macOS Tahoe. Here’s what’s new.

Apple releases macOS 26.5

After rolling out its single release candidate last Monday (unlike iOS, which got a second release candidate last Friday), Apple has now released macOS 26.5 to all users.

Contrary to macOS 26.4, this release is much less eventful, with nearly no new public-facing features. Instead, Apple seems to have focused on bug fixes and performance improvements.

macOS 26.4 brought back Safari’s compact tab view, in addition to a new Charge Limit feature, which allows the user to select between 80% and 100% as the Mac’s maximum charge level.

The release also introduced a new alert that will let users know which apps might stop working when the company discontinues Rosetta support next year.

For macOS 26.5, the relevant additions aren’t Mac-specific, but rather system-wide features, such as progress on end-to-end encryption for RCS, Live Activities support for third-party accessories in Europe, and a new “Suggested Places” feature in Apple Maps.

With the release of macOS 26.5, Apple is also rolling out support for a new pricing option on the App Store: monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment.

In practice, this will give users a way to split annual plans into monthly payments, while still requiring users to commit to the full term. Despite being released today alongside macOS 26.5, the option is available to users worldwide running macOS 26.4 (or later) and its counterparts, except for the United States and Singapore.

The release build for macOS 26.5 is 25F71, which is the same as last week’s RC.
