Lies, Betrayal and Hong Kong’s Elite Take Center Stage in First Trailer For ‘The Season’ (Exclusive)
“Every empire is built on lies” is the messaging revenge drama The Season is trying to hit home in its first trailer.
The trailer for the Hulu international acquisition dropped Thursday morning, released exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter. The Season is set in the “luxurious and cutthroat” world of Hong Kong’s high society boating scene, according to a release. The series was produced by Hong Kong-based PCCW Media in partnership with Crazy Rich Asians studio SK Global.
“Set against the opulence and striking contrasts of Hong Kong, The Season follows a privileged group of friends gathering for a summer of sun-drenched luxury as boating season begins,” the show’s official logline reads. “What starts as a glamorous escape soon spirals into a web of deception, power struggles, and life-altering consequences.”

Described as White Lotus-esque, the high society revenge drama shows Cola, portrayed by Jessie Mei Li, as a newcomer to the elite society, who carries a hidden agenda. At the center of that privileged world is the Hext family, an old-money institution in Hong Kong.
In the trailer, Li’s Cola can be heard saying in voice over that she’s going to take the Hext family down. The newly released footage shows glimpses of horse races, yacht gatherings and glitzy soirees.
The show’s upcoming Hulu launch was originally announced in March at Hong Kong’s Filmart content market. In addition to airing on Hulu in the U.S., the series streams on Now TV in Hong Kong and regional based streamer Viu in territories across Asia, the Middle East and South Africa.
Li is joined by with Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Toby Stephens, three-time Golden Horse winner Karena Lam, Crazy Rich Asians’ Chris Pang, Wolf Warrior 2’s Celina Jade, The Brothers Sun’s Justin Chien, Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Yvonne Chapman, Japanese performer Kōki and Physical 100’s Lee Jae-yoon. Hong Kong pop stars Anson Lo and Marf Yau are also featured.
The series was created and executive produced by NCIS: Hawai’i writer Yalun Tu. Marialy Rivas directs and executive produces, while Janice Lee and Agatha Lo executive produce for PCCW Media. SK Global’s Chloe Dan serves as executive producer alongside Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason.
All episodes of the buzzy drama are set to stream exclusively in the U.S. on June 17. Watch The Season trailer below.
