Latest Ukraine–Russia prisoner swap completed with UAE mediation

The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that it provided mediation efforts that led to the release of 205 prisoners on each side by Russia and Ukraine, marking the 23rd successful exchange facilitated by the UAE.

This was reported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrinform reports.

The ministry expressed gratitude to both countries for their cooperation in the UAE’s mediation efforts, which, it said, “reflects both countries’ confidence and appreciation of the UAE’s role in supporting all efforts to resolve the crisis.”

It added that, as a result of 23 exchanges mediated by the UAE, the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries has reached 7,101. However, the ministry did not specify the exact number of Ukrainian prisoners returned or Russian detainees exchanged.

“Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to ensuring the success of all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and mitigating the humanitarian impact of the crisis, including on refugees and captives,” the statement said.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, 205 Ukrainians were returned from Russian captivity as part of the first stage of the “1000-for-1000” exchange.
