American golfer Nelly Korda has returned to the summit of the world rankings following a commanding five-stroke triumph at the LPGA Chevron Championship. The victory marks her second title at this prestigious event in three seasons and allows her to surpass Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul in the standings after Thitikul missed the cut.

The 27-year-old demonstrated exceptional control throughout the tournament at Houston's Memorial Park, recording rounds of 65, 65, 70, and 70 for a total of 13-under par. On Saturday, Korda matched the event's 54-hole scoring record, though she ultimately finished two strokes short of the tournament's all-time low of 20-under par.

Despite holding a substantial lead entering the final round, Korda acknowledged the psychological challenges of maintaining her advantage. "That was a hard weekend," she told NBC Sports. "Honestly, having that big of a lead, it's not easy. It was definitely one of the hardest things I've had to do mentally."

Korda's closing round featured two birdies in her opening three holes, though bogeys on the back nine prevented her from pursuing the scoring record further. Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit, who began Sunday five shots behind in second place, could not narrow the gap and finished with a 70 to end at 13-under par, level with China's Ruoning Yin.

The Chevron Championship victory extends Korda's major championship collection to three titles, having previously won the Women's PGA Championship in 2021. "I have an amazing support system. An amazing family who are right behind me. An amazing caddie who is on the bag and I'm just happy to get it done," she added.
