EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off acclaimed runs in Little Shop of Horrors, and Tony Award-winning shows Moulin Rouge and Hadestown on Broadway, Jordan Fisher is set to star in and produce I Won’t Dance, a YA sports rom-com marking the feature directorial debut of Christine Lakin, which we scooped last November.

The winner of Dancing With the Stars‘ 25th season, alongside dancing partner Lindsay Arnold, Fisher brings personal experience to the film set in the world of competitive ballroom, which stems from a script by veteran ballroom dancer Allison Johnson. It’s described, in the vein of Crave/HBO Max breakout Heated Rivalry, as the enemies-to-lovers story of Xavier and Alaina, two ballroom rivals who have spent their entire lives trying to outshine each other. When their partners walk out weeks before the National Rising Star Championship, they are left with a single option: win together, or lose everything they’ve worked for separately. What begins as an alliance of necessity becomes something neither of them planned for.

Fisher will play Xavier, the sexy bad boy of the ballroom.

Alexandra Olivia Engelson (Magic & Moxie Productions) will produce alongside Toni D’Antonio (Shake the Tree Productions) and Samantha Bowen, Johnson (Love Laugh Dance Films), choreographer Sharna Burgess, casting director Mia Cusumano, and Fisher, in collaboration with international partner Hulahoop Media. Rosie Cruz will EP, with Film! Canary Islands to handle production services for the shoot, and Lokia overseeing international sales. Production is slated for February 2027.

In a statement to Deadline, Lakin said, “Jordan Fisher is the rare kind of triple threat talent who not only brings massive fan appeal but also a keen producer’s eye to this project. He is a dream partner to tell this story.”

Fisher said, “I’m so thrilled to hop back in my ballroom shoes for this! We all have our own stories about dance films that we either found, or found us growing up. I Won’t Dance is sure to be another one of those moments. My time spent in the ballroom competing on DWTS all those years ago has left an indelible mark in my life that I couldn’t be happier to revisit in a brand new way.”

Fisher is known for roles in the To All the Boys franchise, Work It and Turning Red, as well as series like The Flash and live musical productions for broadcast including Rent: Live and Grease Live!. He has also been seen on stage in everything from Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen to Sweeney Todd and is repped by Gersh, LBI Entertainment, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
