Jon Stewart trolls Trump cognitive test boasts with flashback to embarrassing math fail on Howard Stern show

Jon Stewart's latest volley at President Donald Trump focused on the president's constant boasting about his cognitive health – and resurrected an old clip of an embarrassing math fail to undermine his claims.

Trump, who turns 80 next month, has been insistent that he is still perfectly healthy, both in body and mind. He has claimed on numerous occasions that he has "aced" multiple cognitive tests and is sharper than any previous president.

“I took three cognitive tests. Aced all of them, by the way. ... I don’t think Obama could pass it,” Trump said on Friday during a press conference.

But he wasn't done. On Monday, Trump continued to tout his clarity of mind.

“No president has ever taken a cognitive test except me," Trump said. "I’ve taken three of them.”

While Trump clearly sees the number of tests he's taken to be a point of pride, Stewart sees it differently.

"Why do you think that is?" the comedian asked during his monologue on Monday.

He challenged the president to consider that doctors demanding he take a stream of cognitive tests might suggest something other than top-tier mental acuity.

“Why do you think that you’re the only president that that happens to?” Stewart asked. “That for some reason, every time you go to the doctor, which is a lot, the doctor is always like, ‘Hey, while you’re here... Could you come over here quickly and explain which one is the bear?’”

After calling Trump a "regular Stephen Hawking," he also accused the president of lying about the results of one of his cognitive tests.

During a Friday press conference, Trump gave an example of a question he was asked — and, he claims, answered correctly — during a test.

“You know, they say, ‘Take a number, any number,’ OK, I’ll take 99, ‘Multiply times nine,’ OK, ‘Divide it by three,’ good, ’Add 4,293.’ That’s good. ‘Divide by two. Subtract 93. Divide by nine,’” Trump said.

Stewart was skeptical that Trump could actually answer a math question with that level of complexity. He backed up his skepticism with a clip from a 2006 Howard Stern radio show episode in which Stern stumps Trump and two of his children — Ivanka and Don Jr — with a math question.

“What is 17 times 6?” Stern asks.

After Don Jr. stumbles through an attempt and Ivanka tries to run defense for his wrong answer, Trump himself chimes in and confidently answers the question.

"It's eleven-twelve," he says, before correcting himself to "one-twelve."

Even after the correction, he was wrong.

"It's 102," Stewart said after the clip. “But somehow we’re supposed to believe that 20 years later you’ve turned into a genius?”

Trump has been the subject of numerous health-related issues. Earlier this year, bruising around Trump's hands drew speculation that he was suffering from some malady. The White House claims Trump’s bruising is caused by the vigorous handshaking he does throughout the day, combined with his high intake of aspirin. Presidential health trackers pointed out that Trump was photographed with swollen ankles following his trip to Florida, which was likely the result of his chronic venous insufficiency.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, "CVI damages those valves, causing blood to pool in your legs."

"This increases pressure in your leg veins and causes symptoms like swelling and ulcers," according to the hospital.

The public has noticed Trump’s various medical issues, according to a new poll.

The findings from The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos found that 59 percent of respondents don't believe that Trump has the mental acuity to serve as the president. Another 55 percent said they do not think he is physically healthy enough to carry out his presidential duties.

Last fall, the poll asked the same question, and at that time only 45 percent of Americans believed Trump lacked the physical health to serve as president.
